Single Glazed windows have a U value of approximately 4.7, double glazing fitted prior to year 2002 has a value of about 3 and new energy efficient double glazing fitted on today’s Fensa approved windows has a u value of 1.6. These improvements have been made through the use of low emissivity glass coatings, warm edge spacer bars and argon gas. So does that make triple glazing worth it? In Scandinavian countries, triple glazing is now a standard feature in all windows, with the latest triple glazed windows now taking the u value down to around 0.8. This is a vast improvement on double glazing. Many new builds are now being installed with triple glazing because, in terms of energy savings and an impact on carbon emissions make this better for the environment.
